What helps you get an accurate quote

  • Where the mold is. A bathroom ceiling, behind a baseboard, on attic decking, around the air handler, in a closet that backs onto a shower, or "a smell I can't place." The last one is a valid answer and a common one in Plano.
  • Rough size. A guess is fine. Texas draws its line at 25 contiguous square feet, roughly a 5 by 5 foot patch. Under that you may handle it yourself or hire anyone; at or above it the job needs licensed assessment and remediation.
  • The water source. A slab leak, a burst or frozen pipe, a hail-damaged roof, an AC condensate line, a water heater, an overflowing tub, a dishwasher. If you do not know, say so; finding it is part of the assessment.
  • Age of the house. Plano's median home was built in 1993 and about one in six predates 1980. A pre-1978 home brings EPA lead-safe work rules into play, and 1970s and 80s texture or flooring raises the asbestos sampling question. Knowing the year saves a visit.
  • House, apartment or business. Renters have different rights and the landlord usually pays. Owners of properties with 10 or more units cannot self-remediate 25+ square feet. Commercial buildings have their own scheduling needs.
  • Photos. Keep a few on your phone for when a company calls. The form does not take attachments.

What happens next

Step by step, so there are no surprises.

  1. Your request is read

We look at where the mold is, the rough size and the water source, and match the request to companies that serve your ZIP code and hold the right license for that kind of job.

  2. Companies contact you

Independent licensed companies call, text or email to ask questions or set up a visit. Reply times depend on the companies and the season; late winter and the weeks after a hailstorm are the busy times, and we make no promises about timing.

  3. You compare and decide

Most companies look before they price. A licensed assessor's written protocol is the fairest baseline for comparing remediation quotes. Hire one, or none. There is no cost and no obligation.

Who you may hear from

Texas requires two kinds of company on any hired mold job of 25 contiguous square feet or more, and they may not be the same business. A licensed mold assessment company inspects, writes the protocol and clears the finished job. A licensed mold remediation company removes the mold under that protocol. Depending on what you describe, one or both kinds may respond. No company you reach through this site does both on your project, and we never present one as doing both.

Before any company starts, verify its license at tdlr.texas.gov/LicenseSearch and ask for the Consumer Mold Information Sheet, proof of at least $1 million in liability insurance and the written protocol. The process page lists the full set of questions.

If water is still coming in

Shut the fixture valve or the main at the meter box, turn off the AC if the drain pan is overflowing, and move what you can out of the wet area. The EPA says materials dried within 24 to 48 hours usually do not grow mold. Texas also treats water damage where delay would increase contamination as an emergency, which lets a licensed contractor start after next-business-day notice to TDLR instead of the usual five days. Say "still wet" in the form.

Privacy and how this site is funded

Your request is shared only with the independent companies matched to it. Some companies pay a fee to receive requests; that is how the site is funded, and it does not change what you pay. We do not sell your information. Details are in the privacy policy and terms. Plano Mold Experts is a quote service, not a mold company, and is not affiliated with any company of a similar name.
